Thorntree Psychiatric Associates

Have a psychiatry-related question? We have the answer at Thorntree Psychiatric Associates. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today for more information.

  • What is a Psychiatrist?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor — just like a pediatrician, internist, or surgeon — who has completed medical school followed by four additional years of specialized training in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions.

  • What Does "Board-Certified" Mean?

While a medical license allows a doctor to practice, board certification is a higher standard. The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certifies physicians who meet rigorous criteria in their specialty. Board-certified doctors, known as "diplomates," must regularly renew their certification through ongoing education and testing.

  • What is the Difference Between a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medications, and provide therapy. Psychologists hold a Ph.D. in Psychology and focus on therapy and psychological testing. Both professionals often collaborate to provide comprehensive care.

  • What are Your Office Hours?

We’re open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Friday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Please note, we close for lunch daily from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

  • Are You Covered By My Insurance?

Our providers work with a variety of insurance plans. We recommend checking with your insurance company to confirm if we’re in-network. We accept most major insurance providers, and payment is due at the time of your visit.

  • What is Your Financial Policy?

Payment is expected at the time of service. We’re happy to assist with insurance billing and will verify your benefits beforehand. Please remember that your insurance agreement is between you, your employer, and your insurer. We are not a party to that contract.

  • What Forms of Payment Do You Accept?

We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.

  • What About Billing Questions?
